Halloween 2006

So here we are October, the perfect time to settle down out of the cold and enjoy a great movie, or sit around and really appreciate a new CD. And let's not forget.... <insert dramatic scary voice>.... Halloween! I hope you enjoy reading my recommendations for this month, and if you have any questions then please send me an e-mail using the "Ask Bob" section below and I will post a response as soon as I can.

"The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager"
- Get Cape Wear Cape Fly

Bob Says.....

My first recommendation of the month goes to "Get Cape Wear Cape Fly". Not only does the amazing Sam Duckworth have one of the best band names I can think of, but he's also gone and produced one of standout albums of 2006.
Starting out with just a guitar and his laptop, Sam has gone on to become a critic's fave with recommendations from the likes of the Guardian and the NME.

Listen to tracks from the album here.

The Da Vinci Code

Bob Says.....

Normally I would be a little worried with a film that has a line like "I need to get to a library, fast!". Hardly screams excitement does it? But there is always an objection to the rule.
It was inevitable that possibly one of the biggest books in the last five years was going to be turned into a movie, but when talent such as the likes of Ron Howard to direct, and Tom Hanks to star, it was clear that this movie was going to get some serious attention. Initially it was slated by purists of the book, and I must admit it does deviate in spots, however this still remained very watchable and for people that haven't read the book this is a very enjoyable action adventure.

"Born in the UK" - Badly Drawn Boy

Bob Says.....

Sticking with this month's Autumnal theme I would like to recommend an album by what I believe to be one of our national treasures. Badly Drawn Boy (or Damon Gough to his mates - what is it with these songwriters and silly names?) is by far one of our most under-rated singer / songwriters here in the UK.
As English as Jammie Dodgers and Eastenders, Badly Drawn Boy always adds a typically English sense of fun to his albums, whilst at the same time remaining oddly sentimental.

Listen to tracks from the album here.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Bob Says.....

October to me really screams one thing - Halloween!
You know, every year all I want to do is ignore trick or treaters and get my mates round for something truly terrifying. Now when I say terrifying it's very easy to conjure up images of witches, werewolves and vampires. But after experiencing the Explorer unit dressed up one year to see "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" I can honestly admit I still have nightmares.

Anyway that's enough from me, I'm off to do the time warp and find my suspenders. 'till next month.... Bob

Q: Bob, where did you get your amazing skills?
A: One night in a severe storm whilst I was surfing Amazon.co.uk I was struck by lightning, and in a freak like twist of fate I managed to absorb the entire Amazon catalogue. Now at one with Amazon I like to use my powers for the forces of good by providing helpful and informative advice on all of your entertainment needs.
