WelcomeWelcome to the 3rd Molesey Explorer Unit. The Explorer section is for older youths, usually aged between 15 and 18 years. The Explorer unit is the extension of the group for older people who wish to stay with scouting beyond the age of 15. Explorer units engage in more adventurous activities aimed at older people and the programme and routine is more relaxed. See below for details of what we have been up to. You can also contact the explorer unit by using our e-mail address; explorers@3rdmoleseyscouts.org.uk . |

Summer Camp 2007This year the Explorer section will be camping in France, near the coast in the Cape Gris-Nez area. Information for the camp can be found on our Summer Camp 2007 page. |

Top GolfIn early May we visited the Top Golf centre in Addlestone, where they have a computer controller golf driving range. Each ball has a microchip inside and the player scores points depending on how far and how accurately the balls are hit towards a series of targets on the course. You can view the photos in the Explorer photo gallery and a copy of the score sheet can be downloaded here. |

Avenue QWe are planning a trip to see the award-winning musical "Avenue Q" in London's West End. |

Wabbit Season....Just recently we set our explorer unit a challenge; all they had to do was make rabbit stew. Sounds simple enough doesn't it? Just buy some rabbit from the butcher, add a few vegetables, a bit of simple cooking and hey presto - rabbit stew! Things are never quite what they seem at 3rd Molesey Explorers, so we made things a bit harder by providing only some simple ingredients and a few basic instructions. |
|||
| Fearing culinary chaos, we asked Dan (our resident trainee chef) show everyone how to prepare the rabbit to avoid eternal stomach upset. Oh yes, did we mention that the main ingredient still had fur? No? We're always forgetting these small details! Visit our photo gallery to see how we got on. | ![]() |

It's all downhill from hereHills - simple things; up, down, back up again. Our assistant scout leader descended from a mountain goat and is therefore an expert. He can often be found wandering up and down them with a group of grumpy looking scouts in tow. Fortunately the Norwegians invented a much better use for hills; skiing. They reckon that it requires vast amounts of snow but we're explorers so we are not going to let a stupid little technicality like that stop us. We therefore took the initiative and went to Bracknell ski centre and the chaos began from there.

District Volleyball and Archery Competition"I shall be very annoyed if we lose". Those were the words spoken by Barry at the end of the meeting, on the week before the annual District volleyball and archery competition at Polyapes. Generally speaking we're not too worried about losing at most things at 3rd Molesey, but we make an exception for archery! (And possibly cooking - we don't like losing at that either) However Barry need not have worried, because Amy achieved joint first place in the archery competition, and we can hold our heads high for another year. For everyone else, the competitive spirit was firmly in place and some good fun was had on the volleyball court. Judging by the photos, Phil seems to have been under the impression that it was the District "Pull a stupid face competition", but everyone gets confused sometimes I suppose. The photos can be found in the gallery. |

Bob Recommends....Bob is now famous! You can now read "Bob Recommends" on this site, which is a new feature from our fountain of all music & film knowledge. "Bob Recommends" will bring you up to date with some of newest releases available in the shops. There's some old stuff too, for when you are feeling nostalgic. |

Fire!!We recently visited Esher fire station to learn more about the work of the Surrey Fire Service. The evening was a lot of fun and the crew gave us a fantastic hands-on experience throughout the evening. Cars were lifted, fires were extinguished, breathing apparatus was experienced, and several of our group can now claim that they have slid down a fireman's pole. The photos can be found in the gallery. |

HalloweenHalloween is always fun, and it becomes all the funnier to see Phil dunk his head in bowl of water whilst trying to retreive an onion. I guess you had to be there! It also transpires that our explorers are not just good at cooking, but they seem quite capable with pumpkins too. Several quite impressive designs were carved before the evening was out. Spooky. |

District Games - December 2006Are we allowed to use the phrase "We wiped the floor with them"? Is that too boastful? Ah well, we did, so there! From the 44 people who attended the District games evening, 11 teams were formed. The team in first place was team "Ho Ho Ho" from our unit; well done to Phil, Dan, Carrie, and Joe. Winner of the table tennis was Jacob, winner of the pool was Phil, and winner of the darts was Helen. Thanks to all of the other units in the district for making the event very good fun, and we look forward to next year. We also won the award for the most amusing answer to the question "Who was the title song artiste in the film 'Diamonds are Forever' ?" Our other team "Team Frank" decided that the answer was "The Black Welsh Woman in the 2006 M&S Christmas Advert". Top work; because they even awarded us a point for accurately and politically correctly decribing Shirley Bassey. P.S. Did we mention that we won? :-) |
