Fundraising : Fun Run

raise_the_roof_banner

On 20th July 2008 the Scout Group is arranging the second charity fun run to help raise money to replace the roof on our Scout Hut in St Peters Road. The run will start at 12 noon and teams in fancy dress will run around the course in Molesey. Prizes will be awarded for the best team in each category.

Winning Adult

4 Tickets to the London Dungeon

Winning Family

4 Tickets to the Spectrum Centre (Guildford)

Best Fancy Dress

4 Tickets to The Screen Cinema (Walton)

The race will consist of teams of four people who will push a wheelbarrow around the course, stopping for as long as they dare at a selection of pubs along the way. At each stop every team member must drink a 1/2 pint of something suitable for their age group, and collect a water ballon which needs to be carried (intact) in their wheelbarrow for the rest of the race. At the end of the race, a 5 minute time penalty will be added to the team's race time for each missing or broken water balloon. Time penalties will also be awarded for blatant rule-breaking, as decided by the judges. The winning team will be team with the quickest time after any penalties have been applied.

Last year the fancy dress efforts were impressive, including cow-girls, cross-dressers, St. Trinians "girls", punks, and a variety of other weird outfits. You can see the runners in our photo gallery (login required). Frankly we're worried sick about the outfits we'll get this year - but at least it should be amusing.

Fun Run Route

The event starts at the Scout Hut in St Peters Road. The first stop is at The Europa, then continuing along the Walton Road to The Poyntz Arms. Teams will then continue along Walton Road, across the pelican crossing, along Matham Road and then into Bell Road for a stop at The Bell. The route then continue along Bell Road, turning right into Spencer Road and then left back onto Walton Road. The fourth stop will be at The Lord Hotham, before returning along Walton Road and left into the High Street for a stop at The Cannon. Finally, the teams will cross the pelican crossing for their final stop at The Royal Oak, before making their final dash back to the Scout Hut and the finish line.

Fun Run Rules

  • Teams must consist of four runners, with at least two adults (over 18) in the team. All teams must register with the fun run organisers in advance of the event.

  • Sponsor forms must be handed to the event organisers at the start of the run. Forms will be returned to allow the easy collection of sponsorship money.

  • Runners must stay on the pavements in the interests of safety. Pedestrian crossings must be used to cross the main roads.

  • Fancy dress should be appropriate for an event which will be attended by children. All runners must conduct themselves in a manner suitable for a family event. All runners must obey laws and local bylaws at all times. Trespassing on private property is forbidden.

  • Two members from each team must consume ½ pint of beer at each pub (squash for the under 18s!), without spilling any or tipping any away.

  • A water balloon must be collected at each pub, which is to be placed in the wheelbarrow and must be carried for the rest of the course. Any balloon that is missing or broken at the finish line will incur a 5 minute time penalty.

  • The wheelbarrow must be pushed (not carried) along the entire course. There will be no consideration given to teams with wonky or squeaky wheelbarrow wheels - it is the responsibility of each team to ensure that their barrow is race-prepared.

  • The use of vehicles, bicycles, roller blades / skates, scooters, and any other form of transport other than running is prohibited. Neither people nor animals are allowed to ride in the wheelbarrow.

  • Sabotage or unauthorised wheel clamping of a rival team's wheelbarrow is strictly forbidden.

  • Teams wishing to donate part or all of their sponsorship money to a charity other than the 3rd Molesey Scout Group must register their intent to do so on the entry form, clearly stating the name and registered charity number of the recipient.

  • All team members and their wheelbarrow must cross the finish line before the stopwatch will be stopped. Time penalties will be added for any missing or burst balloons when the team crosses the finish line.

  • The judges' decision is final. We are immune to bribes, but please feel free to try if you wish. (£50 notes are preferred, because they are easier to count)

  • Everyone is required to have fun! Grumpy people will be disqualified.

Donate to our cause

If you cannot make it to the fun run, but would like to make a donation to the group funds, we would be very grateful. All money will be used to replace the roof on the Scout Hut so that we can continue to run the group and help the young people of Molesey.
